Water Management

Hydro 2.0 envisages that electricity can be generated cost effectively, whilst assuring the protective functions of water defence systems and strengthening water resource management in an ecological way.

The effects of hydro projects on flood protection and drought, geomorphology, sedimentation and environment will be assessed thoroughly and minimised as part of an integral water management approach. A long-term, climate-resilient perspective will be taken as to ensure that protection will not be jeopardized by climate change in the next generations and  through a Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety (RAMS) analysis, the long term cost and benefits are being assessed.

Also all relevant EU directives, such as the Birds and Habitat directive, Nature directive, the Water Framework directive and the Floods Directive will be treated in an integrated way.
